What Is NBA Basketball For The Nuggets? Changing Denver’s Philosophy
Denver Needs To Reset Goals to be Realistic
We may not make the playoffs. We may not be contenders for the foreseeable future, so we need to concentrate on entertaining the customers. Entertaining largely means winning in sports, but it also means liking what we see, win or lose.
If we see effort, camaraderie, professionalism, potential upwardly mobile, development, dedication, loyalty and intelligence, fans will come. Even if we lose. There are several teams who lose but have a loyal fan base.
We should set up goals to provide a positive product that a fan can be lured to and support.
Run and shoot first.
George Karl was right, we don’t know what is involved to get the teams the way he could get them to win. This is in spite of his new book and being old and grumpy. He won and we were always in the playoffs. And we maybe should have been satisfied in retrospect. But that is the past.
Karl had an understanding of one thing. He played to our advantage, running the opposition into the ground. This may be the only advantage Denver has in this league other than having superstars to win.
Until we get that critical cog, a superstar in our wheel, logic at our altitude would lend that we have to get the spokes spinning as quickly as possible.
I’m not sure we have the wherewithal to improve radically in defense.
Simply speaking, defense is three things: focus, foot speed and basketball IQ. Each of those components should be separate pages for each player to discuss with the team and practice. Team defense if even more important.
But we have the offense. We can literally match up with any team in the league. When the opposition adjusts and defends better, find another offensive tool to offset it. Set each other up!
So we should still try to outlast, outrun them. Physics, our altitude.
If we can continually adjust our offense with better screens, acknowledgement of the hot hand, unselfishness, care with the ball and rebounding, we should be able to keep that 6 point lead during the last minute.
