The Denver Nuggets must secure a big name free agent this summer.
The Denver Nuggets find themselves in a delicate situation. They are currently on course to make it back to the playoffs and have uncovered a budding star in Nikola Jokic. On top of that, Jamal Murray and Gary Harris have become integral parts of this Denver squad.
However, the Nuggets are still missing that go-to link that would officially solidify them as one of the more serious teams in the NBA. With about $15,103,290 in projected cap space this summer, the time for GM Tim Connelly to make a splash is this year during free agency. With that amount of money, Denver has about the seventh highest cap space in the league.

That means there are more than plenty of All-Star caliber players to go around. If Denver does not secure themselves a star player to pair with Nikola Jokic, preferably a power forward like Paul Millsap, then this upcoming off-season will be deemed a failure. Just think about all the star free agents.
There will be guys like Steph Curry and Chris Paul who can instantly change the fate of a franchise. Do not forget other players like Kyle Lowry, Blake Griffin, Gordon Hayward or even the potential to trade for a guy like Eric Bledsoe from the struggling Phoenix Suns. Last, but not least, are the guys who would benefit the Nuggets best. The power forwards such as Zach Randolph and the heavily coveted Atlanta Hawks power forward, Paul Millsap.
Normally not getting a star in free agency is the norm for the Nuggets franchise. After being so close to landing Wade last summer and having this amount of cap space this summer, if they don’t add to their arsenal of already impressive talent, then this year’s upcoming free agency will be a failure.

Not to sound urgent, especially with Denver trending upward, but the time to strike for a big name player is this season. Tim Connelly has done a great job rebuilding this team thus far, but he needs to now land a quote on quote “big fish,” in order to become one of the best GM’s in the entire NBA.
