The Nuggets have a lot of cap room going into free agency this year.

They were aggressive with Dwyane Wade last season, and they can afford to be aggressive this year as well. The Nuggets could try to get another star to pair with Nikola Jokic next season.

The first priority for the Nuggets should be to resign Gary Harris. He’s played great and there could be a large part of their future could fall on his shoulders. Then they should explore their options.

A free agent that could be out on the market this summer that should demand attention is Gordon Hayward. I say could because he could also choose to go back to Utah for the next season. Even with players like Wilson Chandler and Juancho Hernangomez, Denver could benefit greatly from Hayward’s prowess. It would be strange for the player from Butler to go to a division rival, but it could boost Denver’s chances greatly. This would make sense if Danilo Gallinari chose to opt out of his contract with the Nuggets, and that might be likely.

Another player that I really like, and Denver should target is Kyle Lowry. He’s a proven point guard in the Eastern Conference, and could fill a great leadership role for this young squad. He has playoff experience, even taking the NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers to six games in the Eastern Conference Finals a year ago. I appreciate everything that Jameer Nelson has done for the team, but I think that Denver should attack for Lowry.

No matter what happens, the Nuggets have a bright future ahead of them, and it should be fun to watch.
