Denver gave it their best shot, but it looks like they will fall short of the post season again.

It was fun while it lasted for the Denver Nuggets. However, it is time to acknowledge the writing on the wall. The Nuggets’ season is over.

They made a great effort at trying to hold on to the eight seed, but in the end, they choked in Portland. As a result, they gave the Trail Blazers that much more momentum going forward and they haven’t slowed down since.

The Trail Blazers are now a couple of games ahead of the Nuggets to go along with holding tie breaker since they won the season series three games to one. What’s important to keep in mind though is that this young team still shattered a lot of low expectations. Many NBA fans were not even willing to put Denver ahead of teams like the Lakers and the 76ers before the season even began. The fact that they made a playoff push and are currently at the ninth seed shows that they cannot be overlooked anymore.

Now, before you get angry, let me state this. I hope I am wrong. I want this team to make the playoffs by some miracle, but think about who is left on the schedule for both Denver and Portland.

Denver still has to face a Pelicans team who has been playing really well lately and demolished the Nuggets recently. They also have to finish the season series with a Thunder team who always seems to have Denver’s number, especially with Russell Westbrook on a mission.

Portland, on the other hand, will also have a tough time. With the way they have been playing though, it is difficult to envision them letting up any time soon. They have to battle a tough Jazz team still and will go up against San Antonio as well. Keep in mind that the Spurs could be resting their stars at that time, so Portland will still have a very good chance at winning that particular game.

Both teams face a difficult remaining schedule, but it is time for Nuggets fans to start looking forward towards the draft and free agency. Even if the Nuggets win out, they will need some help from other teams. With the way things have been going, that is not going to happen anytime soon.
