Denver made great progress this season showing that they are one piece away from being a threat in the Western Conference.

While the outcome of the season did not go the Denver Nuggets’ way, they should still be proud of the progress they made.

The fact that they were even close to the post season should say something. With this in mind, the Nuggets are just one key player away from being take seriously in the league again. Whether that player is a star or simply a lock down defender remains to be seen, but one cannot deny the potential of this young core.

If they are able to land and solidify a solid player that fits the mold of this young squad this off season, then expect to see playoff basketball make a return to the Mile High. The Nuggets already possess the likes of Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Gary Harris. Not to mention, they still have the likes of Juancho Hernangomez and Malik Beasley on their roster.

Even if Gallinari leaves in free agency, this team most likely will retain Wilson Chandler, a very versatile player. If the Nuggets strike gold with their 13th overall pick or land the likes of a Paul Millsap or even a Blake Griffin, the Western Conference is going to get even more competitive.

The Nuggets were able to defeat both of the championship teams from last year. If they didn’t let some of the games they were expected to win slip, then the Nuggets would have claimed the eighth seed.
