Jamal Murray was one of the feel good stories for the Nuggets this past season.
Jamal Murray turned out to be a great draft pick for Denver last summer. After starting out extremely cold in the regular season, he turned things around and quickly made it clear that he was worth the seventh overall pick.
What statistic that really goes overlooked from his impressive rookie season is his assist percentage. Assist percentage is an estimate of the percentage of teammate field goals a player assisted on while he was on the floor.

Denver Nuggets
For his rookie year, Murray possessed an assist percentage of 14%. Normally, this would not be an exactly stellar percentage for a point guard. However, remember two things. One, Murray was a rookie so it took a little bit of an adjustment to get used to the NBA level of competition. And two, Murray came into the league as a two guard and wasn’t slid to the point until later on in the year. When you take these two factors into consideration, his 14% assist percentage is actually more impressive than one would normally believe.
Plus, you know that this stat will just increase with time since Murray is developing so nicely. Especially when there is a slight possibility for him becoming the starting point guard next season.
Make no mistake, Murray had a great rookie year and his assist percentage is just one key indication of this fact from his past season. All stats were verified via basketball-reference.com.
