The Denver Nuggets’ breakup with Jusuf Nurkic was messy and Nurkic voiced his issues, but the Nuggets are clearly in the better situation now.
At this point, the relationship between Jusuf Nurkic and the Denver Nuggets may as well be two estranged exes. The breakup was sloppy and the two sides continue to go at it. We saw the latest shot from Nurkic at the NBA Awards when Barkley laughed at Nuggets fans for being hopeful and he took to Twitter and posted a crying laughing emoji face implying he agreed with Barkley.
Well, I have on question for you, Mr. Overrated Blazers center, who cries when he gets benched for a superior player: who’s laughing now? You know, since Nikola Jokic now has an All-Star power forward helping him man the paint down low in the form of Paul Millsap. Oh, that’s right, you nor any of Portland’s big men are even on the same level of those two players. Have fun dealing with that match up four times a year next season. It will be a glorious sight seeing the two stars drink the tears coming from Jusuf’s eyes.
Am I getting carried away? Maybe a bit. And Nurkic actually had a strong end to the season with the Blazers, averaging 15.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.9 blocks in only 29.2 minutes (albeit for a quick 20-game run).
Next: Can the Nuggets form a 'Big 3'?
However, you cannot deny Nurkic brought all of this upon himself. There was no need for public ill-will, even if he wanted to use his departure as motivation. This Denver team will be ready and Nurkic has a rude awakening waiting for him. It’s hard to see the Blazers making the playoffs next season either.
