The Denver Nuggets’ playoff hopes were dealt a crushing blow as they learned the story of Paul Millsap and his injured wrist.

Paul Millsap has been a solid addition to the Nuggets’ roster to say the very least. So far this year, he has averaged 15.3 points per game, 6.2 rebounds per game and a decent assists total per game for a power forward at exactly 3.

Well, Denver is going to be without his production for a while as they learned he will be out indefinitely going forward into the year as he will have to have surgery on his left wrist to repair some ligaments he injured in the debacle in Los Angeles where the Nuggets fell to the Lakers.

The Nuggets will be missing a huge chunk of their team as Millsap isn’t just the second star on the team, he is also their defensive anchor and veteran with key playoff experience. Outside of Richard Jefferson, who has a ring with the Cleveland Cavaliers, he is the only one on the team who has ever made it deep into the post season.

Without Millsap, the Nuggets will rely on their youth and their depth to get them through his absence and to keep the ship a float while he heals from his injury. There will be some rough spots and there is no debate about that, but this team has had enough experience from the last couple of years now to learn and grow together.

If they can still keep a record around .500 until Millsap returns, then their playoff aspirations will remain intact.

This will be a good opportunity for guys like Trey Lyles and Kenneth Faried to step up and show that despite the log jam at the four spot, Denver’s depth can still carry them to success.

In the end, let’s hope for a speedy recovery for Millsap.
