After trailing at half time, the Denver Nuggets were able to find a late spark which propelled them over the Minnesota Timberwolves for the win.
The Denver Nuggets looked as if they were ready to phone it in at certain parts of this game. With Jokic struggling to find a rhythm in the first half, things were not looking good at all for this young team.
Devin Harris then came to the rescue. He closed out the third quarter by hitting three straight three point shots which shifted the momentum into Denver’s favor. It was a rare sight to see this Nuggets squad close out a third quarter on a high note.
Jamal Murray once again, showed he has ice water in his veins. He got Karl Anthony Towns to foul out after getting him to bite on a fake late in the fourth quarter which netted him two momentum changing free throws. Murray finished the game with a total of 22 points. Harris had 20 points.
Jokic was able to get going in the second half as he finished with 16 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists. Only one assist shy of a triple double. Jokic even had the game sealing tap in after Will Barton missed a shot while the team was up in the waning seconds of the game. Jokic was able to show his worth, despite a poor first half performance.
All five of the Denver Nuggets’ starters finished in double figure points again. However, head coach, Michael Malone took a major gamble in this game by only playing nine of his active players. Trey Lyles only saw four minutes of action which came later in the second half.
Neither team played their best, but if there is anything we can take away, it is that the Nuggets are capable of fighting to the end for a win even when they are rusty.
