The Denver Nuggets will not get a high draft pick this year which begs another question.

The Denver Nuggets are going to be in the middle of the lottery for the second straight season. Speculatively, the worst spot to be in the NBA.

While the Nuggets did not make the post season, they still have a ton of talent they have assembled over the years. So, with this in mind, should the Nuggets even bother to utilize their draft pick this summer?

The Nuggets are in a financial bind with guys like Kenneth Faried, Darrell Arthur and Wilson Chandler on the payroll. Denver should package whatever draft pick they receive in a trade in order to off load some of these contracts.

It is going to be hard to get any team to bite on Kenneth Faried’s contract. Therefore, they will need to add something enticing to trade the veteran power forward. Something like their lottery pick.

However, if they get lucky they could also add Chandler and/or Arthur in with the deal. The problem will be finding suitors for this potential deal. They will not be able to trade any of these players to playoff contenders. This leaves other lottery teams who are in the middle of rebuild processes as of right now.

Not to mention, whoever pulls the trigger on this trade could use someone like Faried as trade bait for any other potential suitors. What is key for Denver is cleaning up their books.

Nikola Jokic’s contract is almost up and the front office is going to need to keep him and his camp happy.

With plenty of quality free agents this summer and a definite possibility of getting a middle of the road draft pick, the Nuggets should explore trading the lottery pick they receive in order to alleviate their financial situation.
