The Denver Nuggets have constructed a great core and this season’s talented free agent class could be a trap for them.

Am I saying LeBron James would be bad for the Denver Nuggets? No, but if we are being realistic, the stars who have a slim chance of coming to the Mile High may actually hinder the core’s development.

Some may want us to take another shot at Paul George. He is a free agent, a small forward which is Denver’s weak spot and could form a big three with Nikola Jokic and Paul Millsap. However, he made it clear a couple seasons ago he did not want to stay long term in Denver if he came here.

The Nuggets have solidified their staple they want to build around for the long term future. Nikola Jokic and Paul Millsap have already shown the league how talented they are.

Many seem to not know about the hidden gems in Jamal Murray and Gary Harris. Bringing a star point guard like Isiah Thomas, or a star shooting guard, like Dywane Wade, would get in the way of the back court’s progress. Not to mention, the back court would become crowded like Denver’s front court.

The Denver Nuggets were only one game out of the post season this year. With their current trajectory, Denver should be able to sneak into the Western Conference playoffs next year. They have improved their record in the past three years. Based on this pattern, the Nuggets should not be willing to do something drastic to blow up their progress.

The Nuggets have constructed a great staple to build around. Bringing in a star who is used to being the number one option rather than being a part of a “Spurs,” like offensive scheme could hurt their chances.
