The Denver Nuggets need to make a decision on Will Barton soon.

The Denver Nuggets reportedly gave a contract extension offer to Will Barton before the beginning of the season. He apparently denied the offer.

With so much cap space tied up this off season. Not to mention,Nikola Jokic’s contract is almost up, Denver needs to part ways with the energetic sixth man. Barton is most likely going to want max contract money, especially after having a career year.

This is something the Nuggets simply cannot afford. Similar to Wilson Chandler, Will Barton was too inconsistent for the Nuggets to guarantee a long term, big time type of contract.

Chandler is most likely going to opt into his contract and Kenneth Faried is still handi capping the Nuggets with his current over bloated contract. Darrell Arthur is also still on the books. The Nuggets are going to have plenty of decisions to make when it comes time to lock down Nikola Jokic long term.

He is going to want max money and if Will Barton is given a huge contract, it simply won’t be possible unless some miraculous trades happen to go through for the team. Will Barton could be a key fit for many other teams in the league who are looking for a spark from a high powered sixth man.

Teams who are willing to give a bigger contract than the Denver Nuggets. As painful as it is say, a team like the Warriors, for example, could make good use of Barton.

\Even though he can be a headache at times, it will still hurt to see Barton leave.
