The Denver Nuggets are moving on from Wilson Chandler and going with Will Barton as their starting small forward. What about Juancho Hernangomez?

The Denver Nuggets did not get to utilize Juancho Hernangomez much last season. He was battling illness for much of the year and it hindered his playing time.

As a result, we did not get a good enough sample to really judge his sophomore season. If we go by his numbers from his rookie campaign though, then he should be in for a promising third year.

Hernangomez will most likely be the back up at the small forward position and this could open the door to some great opportunities for the Spaniard. He can stretch the floor effectively and has a ton of un-refined potential which could be deadly if harnessed correctly.

Juancho will be a key piece on Denver’s second unit and will remind the rest of the league why the Nuggets decided to take a chance on him and draft him higher than people think he should of went in his draft class.

If he can take advantage of his playing opportunities and develop a more rounded scoring game, then watch out. He needs to work on his explosiveness to allow him to drive past defenders for shots at the rim and stop settling for jump shots too much. Although, working on pull up shots off the dribble would not hurt either.

He is already a solid catch and shoot player. Teams will pick up on this though and start adapting their defense. If Hernangomez wants to truly be a surprise for the Nuggets next season, he will have to find other ways to score and start contributing more on the defensive end.

Juancho Hernangomez certainly has the potential to be a nice revelation as a back up wing or stretch four come next year.
