The Denver Nuggets were not able to get a good sample from Paul Millsap this past season.
With that being said, that does not mean the Denver Nuggets should rush to the phones and see about trading the veteran power forward right away.
I do not know how many times I have seen fans complain and demand the four time All Star to be traded just because he was not his usual self last season. Why does he deserve a legitimate chance for the Denver Nuggets?
The man was sidelined with a wrist injury for 75% of the season. As durable as the man has proven during his career, he is still human and the fan base needs to be patient with him and let him show what he can do this coming year.
Not to mention, he was adjusting to a new offensive scheme and trying to figure out how to co-exist with Nikola Jokic in the front court. While it seems like it shouldn’t be a problem for anyone to figure out how to play with Jokic, bear in mind Millsap was coming from a team where he was the go-to option and had get acclimated to becoming the second or even third option on the offensive end of the floor.
He still has at least one more season on his contract before his final year where the team can decline bringing him back for one more season. Let’s at least let the man play a full season before we start writing him off as a bad signing and demanding him to be traded.
Of course, Millsap will have back his game up as well. He needs to show flashes of his All Star self this coming season otherwise, the fans who want him gone will be proven right.
