The Denver Nuggets have seen Monte Morris shine at Summer League.
The Denver Nuggets drafted Monte Morris last year and is debatebly the best pick of that Nuggets’ class. This summer so far, we have seen Monte Morris shine and make a strong case for the back up point guard spot on the active roster.
Why should the team take a chance on a young G-League prospect to run the back up point guard spot behind Jamal Murray? In the win over the Milwaukee Bucks, Morris stole the show by posting a total of 20 points, eight assists and six rebounds which is nearly a triple double.
This was not the only impressive performance he has had this summer. In the win over the Boston Celtics the other night, he had 14 points along with six assists.
Finally, Morris in the Summer League opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves possessed a stat line of 15 points to go along with four assists while he shot 46.7% from the field. Stats aside, Morris has shown a ton of poise so far which will go a long way towards netting him a spot on the active roster.
Morris has controlled the offense as a true point guard should and also has some nice athleticism. Morris is actually underrated in terms of his athleticism and this allows him to drive to the basket at an effective rate.
Monte was given an opportunity by the Denver Nuggets and now he is making the most of his chance. If he keeps playing at a high rate, then we very well may see Morris on the active roster backing up Jamal Murray next regular season.
