With reports coming in with the Denver Nuggets inquiring about Kawhi Leonard, many fans are willing to give up Gary Harris for them.

If the Denver Nuggets were to trade away Gary Harris for a one year rental in Kawhi Leonard, it would be one of the worst decisions in franchise history.

Kawhi has made it very clear that he wants to be in Los Angeles and nowhere else. Meanwhile, Gary Harris is only a year removed from signing a four year extension with the Denver Nuggets.

On top of that, he has improved every year and has became one of the premier two guards on the entire NBA. Plus, it seems as if Harris is extremely happy in the Mile High City.

I am not taking anything away from Kawhi Leonard’s talent. I understand he is one of the top stars in the NBA. However, there is no guarantee he will benefit the Nuggets and fit their plan and scheme.

Not to mention, we do not know how much we would have to give up in a trade with the San Antonio Spurs. Gregg Popovich and the Spurs are not foolish. They are going to make sure they can get a king’s ransom for the services of their former Finals MVP.

Gary Harris could have another break out season as he is starting to transition into the prime of his career. He seems to be on pace to be as productive as other top shooting guards such as C.J. McCollum and even Klay Thompson.

For all we know, the Nuggets could find a way to trade for Kawhi without giving up Harris, though it is unlikely. They have already traded Kenneth Faried, Darrell Arthur and Wilson Chandler. They do not have much to offer anymore in terms of role players.

Gary Harris is an un-touchable piece and the Nuggets need to avoid the Kawhi Leonard risk.
