On the first day of free agency in 2018, the Nuggets shocked the NBA by immediately resigning Will Barton to a lucrative contract.

The deal is worth $53 million over 4 years with a player option on the last year according to spotrac.com. After reportedly turning down a 4 year, $42 million deal earlier in the season, Barton bet on himself and won.

You can debate as to whether or not Barton was worth the massive sum, but that’s not what I’m here to talk about today. It was widely assumed after Barton signed this deal that he would slot in at the starting small forward slot after Denver traded Wilson Chandler to the 76ers just a few days later, but I don’t think that will be the case.

Here’s why Will Barton will not be starting at small forward for the Nuggets next season.
