Of all the things to be excited for this year for the Denver Nuggets, one aspect to watch will be the offense.

The Denver Nuggets have had one of the highest scoring offenses in the league for the past two seasons now. With the core having another year of experience under their belt to go along with some new faces, the offense should be explosive once again this coming season.

However, the team must be wary. In the new era which has became a three point shooting renaissance, the Nuggets must not make the same mistake the Houston Rockets have made. They cannot fall too in love with the deep ball.

Yes, they do have some snipers on their roster. Gary Harris was in the top 10 in terms of three point percentage a couple years ago and Jamal Murray has such a smooth jump shot. However, the Denver Nuggets have the potential to be a deadly mid range shooting team as well.

Besides, one of their favorite plays is a give and go with Jokic where Jokic pops out near the free throw line and takes the jumper if he has enough space. To get away from plays like this would be counter-intuitive.

This is not meant to be a piece taking shots at Houston, but look at the difference between them and Golden State. Mike D’Antoni, Houston’s head coach, seems to think mid range shots are “evil,” whereas the Warriors can score in a number of ways.

Yes, they are always looking for an open three, but Klay and Steph are not afraid to get defenders to bite on fakes and dribble in for an easy mid range jump shot. Not to mention, Kevin Durant can make his living at the elbow of the key with his height and wing span.

For the Nuggets, they have to be careful not to get complacent with the offense this coming season and still be aggressive scorers. Do not make the same mistake the Rockets made in their elimination game from last year and only shoot three point shots and shots at the basket.
