The Denver Nuggets’ two best teams in their history have been the 2009 and 1985 squads.
The Denver Nuggets have had a few teams in their history who had championship potential. Some of the teams have boasted players of the likes of Kiki Vandeweghe, Alex English and Dan Issel.
Some have had the talents of Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony. Some have even had great coaches who took them further than expected such as the 2013 team led by head coach, George Karl.
However, there are two clear cut teams in Nuggets’ history who rise above every other team in Denver’s long history. Of course, I am talking about the 1985 team lead by head coach, Doug Moe, Alex English and Fat Lever along with the 2009 team led by George Karl, Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups.
Both of these units succumbed to the high powered Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. The 1985 squad lost one game to four against Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy. The 2009 team lost two games to four against Kobe Bryant and the overlooked Pau Gasol.
However, these team’s success should not be overlooked by the Denver Nuggets’ fan base and the rest of the NBA’s fan bases. These two teams actually have a couple of similarities which go overlooked.
Without further adieu, let’s take a look at how the two best Denver Nuggets’ teams in franchise history compare to each other. All stats were verified via basketball reference.
