6)James Ray

Chosen 5th in the 1980 draft by the Denver Nuggets. James Ray would continue the trend seen above of short-lived NBA careers.

Nevertheless, at Jacksonville University, James is 7th all time in scoring (1,591), rebounding (793) and 4th in blocked shots (132).

Unfortunately at the NBA level, James Ray only averaged: 3.2 points per game, 2.2 rebounds per game and 0.7 assists.

In other word, their was little use for his game in the NBA.

5)Maurice Martin

Was chosen 16th by the Denver Nuggets. His story was a little different from the players mentioned thus far.

His career was cut short by complications with his knee. Something neither Maurice nor the Denver Nuggets could have foreseen.

Nevertheless, albeit by injury, the Denver Nuggets yet again found themselves in the predicament of having drafted a player in the 1st round that ended up producing very little on an NBA court.

Maurice’s career averages were: 3 points per game, 0.9 rebounds per game and 0.7 assists per game.

On a brighter note, Maurice did end up helping the Nuggets.

Maurice ended up supervising the transition of the Pepsi Center between basketball court and the hockey rink.
