Denver Nuggets: How good are they?
The Denver Nuggets are an impressive 8-1 to start the season after a 35-15 fourth quarter rally to blow past the Utah Jazz, with the Boston Celtics coming to town tonight.
In the Utah game, I wasn’t left with as many concerns as I had in some of the previous wins. After a slow start in the first quarter, the Denver Nuggets seemed to plow from unit to unit pretty well before finally giving a terrific 4th quarter effort to walk away with the win.
Denver Nuggets
Jamal Murray and Gary Harris brought 19 and 20 points respectively in a strong showing for the starting back court. I thought Paul Millsap again took the reins both offensively and defensively when called up on to step up as a leader, and Nikola Jokic approached a triple double despite a lingering hesitance to shoot the ball. His 16 assists were a very important part of the offense.
The rest of the team again was there to contribute when their numbers were called with Malik Beasley leading the bench scoring with 12 points and 3 of 5 shooting from 3pt range including a clutch three pointer in the 4th quarter.
Tonight is another chapter of the young promising season as the Nuggets welcome the Boston Celtics to town with hopes of not only keeping pace with the NBA elite in the standings, but making a huge statement that the Denver Nuggets are here to stay. A real problem for any team on any night.
Denver will have to show they can continue to get the strong performances from the starters as well as the bench. So far, Denver has found a way to win the matchup game offensively and defensively. Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward and company present the newest challenge to Michael Malone and the Nuggets. Paul Millsap is questionable per ESPN with a sore ankle.
So, we hope Paul can go and if not somebody or bodies has to fill his shoes if he can’t.
