The NBA is off to an interesting and somewhat surprising start, to say the very least, especially for the Denver Nuggets.

The Denver Nuggets have been a pleasant surprise for fans of the team, and a nightmare for the rest of the NBA. Through their improved defense, they have shot to the top of the Western Conference and established themselves as a contender for the Conference Finals.

They have managed to do all this without the help of their first-round pick, Michael Porter Jr., Isaiah Thomas, and Will Barton for all but 2 games.

While their top-5 offense from the past 2 seasons has taken a hit, as has their shooting, the team is having their best season since their 57 win effort with George Karl in the head coach’s chair. However, where do they rank amongst the rest of the teams in the league through the 9th week of the NBA season?

As was known at the beginning of the year, the Western Conference is significantly superior to the Eastern Conference, with 6 teams in the East earning winning records this season compared to 9 teams in the West.

Only one team in the West does not have double-digit wins, while 4 teams in the East share that distinction. So, there will be more Eastern Conference teams in the bottom-15 than Western Conference teams.

However, the Eastern Conference’s best teams are better than the West’s best teams, which means you will see more East than West in the top-5.

Now that the ground rules have been established, let’s get into the power rankings.
