3 Takeaways: Denver Nuggets vs Los Angeles Clippers
If the Nuggets big men play like they did last night against Los Angeles, Denver will be a problem in the playoffs
There can’t be enough good things said about how the big men on the Nuggets played last night. Starters Nikola Jokic and Paul Millsap poured in 22 and 21 points respectively and each collected 16 rebounds. Jokic kept performing at a high level, but the real story is about Millsap.
If Denver gets a healthy Millsap for the rest of the season and the playoffs, they will be dangerous. Millsap is one of the best defenders on the team, but his season has been very up and down.
He got off to a rough start to the season before finding his groove. He then broke his big toe and missed a good chunk of time before coming back and struggling again. He then missed another batch of games with ankle soreness before coming back again a few weeks ago. He has since found his groove, putting up big offensive numbers along with elite defense.
The player that the Nuggets have seen in the small sample size after the All-Star break is the player they wanted when they signed Millsap to a three year, $90 million dollar contract last offseason. If he continues his high level of play, the rest of the league will need to watch out.
Aside from Millsap, Jokic and fellow center Mason Plumlee also provided some exquisite highlights, with Plumlee making his second three pointer of the season and Jokic making another unbelievable pass:
The Nuggets big men did a great job of controlling the game last night. More performances like this from the talented group will help the Nuggets make a strong playoff push.
