3 Takeaways: Denver Nuggets vs Los Angeles Clippers
Juancho Hernangomez needs to find his groove
With Trey Lyles struggling and now also out with injury, the Nuggets need someone to step up and give them quality minutes at the backup power forward position. Juancho Hernangomez has been given the opportunity to be the guy to step up, but so far the early returns haven’t been great.
Hernangomez was an extremely solid contributor early in the season, establishing himself as an elite three point shooter while improving on the defensive side of the ball.
However over the course of the last few months, Hernangomez has lost a lot of minutes due to the Nuggets finally being healthy. Also, it has been reported that Hernangomez has been injured for some time with very painful groin and abdominal injuries. That might be altering his play, but he also seems to have lost some confidence.
In the win against the Clippers, Hernangomez attempted one three point shot on which he was fouled on. He missed two of three free throws to finish the game with one point in 12 minutes of action. He also contributed three rebounds and one assist.
Hernangomez is a good option because he can space the floor and he is a good three point shooter. However, he hasn’t been playing up to his skill level over the past few months. If he can regain his form, it would help Denver be more effective on offense and open up the floor.
