2 Takeaways: Denver Nuggets @ Boston Celtics
Isaiah Thomas is a good player and an even better person, but there is no fit for him on this Denver team
Isaiah Thomas made his return to Boston on Monday night just a few games after being cut from the rotation. Thomas has a place in the heart of all of Boston, pouring his everything into the city during his stint with the Celtics.
Because of this, head coach Michael Malone did the right thing and gave Thomas minutes in his return to the city. However, what was a heartwarming move quickly turned sour.
Thomas played eight minutes, going 0-2 from the field while also contributing one assist. He also had one turnover, and a +/- of -8.
When Thomas was in the game, people saw the stagnant Denver offense that was the main reason why Denver lost a few games coming out of the All-Star break.
In order to be successful, Thomas needs the ball in his hands and he needs to orchestrate the offense. While playing along Monte Morris, Thomas is often relegated to playing off ball, which isn’t a particular strength of his.
Thomas still has the tools to be a successful player in the NBA, and all Nuggets and NBA fans should hope he gets another chance and succeeds. He is a great person who has been an important veteran presence and mentor to a young team, and it’s safe to say Denver might not be where they are today without his guidance. However, he isn’t a good fit on this Denver team from a player standpoint, and that’s alright. He’ll get another chance, and he will give it his all.
