With the playoffs right around the corner and the Nuggets vying for the number one seed in the Western Conference, one question keeps coming to mind.

The question that everyone has to be asking right now is a simple one. How far can this Denver Nuggets team go in the playoffs?

It’s a question that will be determined by a couple factors. With less than 10 games left, they are almost guaranteed a top two seed in the Western Conference, and that comes with home court advantage through the first two rounds of the playoffs.

Everyone knows that the Nuggets are a different animal at home than they are on the road. The team has one of the best home records in the NBA, as they feed off of the Pepsi Center and they use the Denver altitude to their advantage.

Another rather big factor will be the opponents that they will draw in each round. It’s looking like the Nuggets will take on either the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, Utah Jazz, or Los Angeles Clippers. No matchup in the playoffs is easy, but out of those teams, the Nuggets will most likely want to see the Thunder and the Clippers. The Spurs and Jazz always seem to have the Nuggets’ number, while the Denver has had a lot of success against the Thunder and Clippers.

In the second round it will get a lot tougher. If they advance, the team will most likely have to face the Houston Rockets or Portland Trail Blazers. Denver has struggled immensely against the Rockets, as they lost the season series 3-1 and don’t have answers for James Harden and Clint Capela. The Nuggets would much rather see the Trail Blazers, who just lost Jusef Nurkic to injury (get well soon Nurk!).

Denver doesn’t have a lot of playoff experience, which puts them at a slight disadvantage. The playoffs are nothing like the regular season, and the Nuggets will have to turn up their energy in order to have success.

Most people believe that the Nuggets are going to be upset in the first round. However, this team could surprise some people and make the Western Conference Finals. They have the tools to have a successful playoff run, and if they get a good draw of opponents in the first two rounds, they could go head to head with the Golden State Warriors for the Western Conference crown.
