Denver Nuggets: Why Chauncey Billups deserves to be in the Hall of Fame

Chauncey Billups was an amazing point guard and a great ambassador for Denver Nuggets Basketball

Former Denver Nugget Point Guard Chauncey Billups has been nominated for the NBA Hall of Fame class of 2019.

Chauncey Billups is definitely worthy to be in the Hall of Fame and was an outstanding point guard for the Denver Nuggets.His has a career marked by winning and beating some of the best teams in NBA history.

In 2004, Chauncey Billups led the Pistons to nearly sweep Kobe and Shaq in five games in the NBA finals. And he was named the MVP of the series. When Chauncey Billups played he was known for his tough defense, passing prowess, and  the ability to hit big shots.

Before arriving to the Detroit Pistons, Chauncey helped lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to two playoff appearances. After playing with the Timberwolves, Chauncey Billups led the Detroit Pistons to 6 straight Eastern Conference finals and two straight NBA finals. While playing for the Detroit Pistons, the Pistons were notorious for beat great teams out of the playoffs. Chauncey BIllups and the Pistons beat in the playoffs the Pacers led by Reggie Miller, 76ers led by Allen Iverson, Magics led by Dwight Howard, and the Cavaliers led by Lebron James.

The following year after leaving the Pistons, Chauncey led the  Denver Nuggets to the Western Conference finals in his first year and three straight playoff appearances. He was an All-Star with the Denver Nuggets. After the Nuggets, he started for every game he played with the Knicks the last time they made the playoffs. And after leaving the Knicks, he played and helped the Clippers make the playoffs for two straight years.

Chauncey Billups played for over 18 years  in the NBA and in his career made 13 consecutive playoff appearances for five different teams. And he started for over 90% of the games he played for those franchises. He made 5 all-star appearances and was NBA all defensive team for 4 years.

You are only as good as the competition you beat. And Chauncey Billups had a winning track record against some of the greatest players ever. In his playoff matchups, he had a winning record against Kobe Bryant(6-5), Allen Iverson(6-2), Reggie Miller(8-6), Shaq(10-8) and Ray Allen(5-2). These players are all regarded as 50 of the greatest players ever.

There are not 50 point guards in NBA history with Chauncey Billups’s longevity and winning track record against some of the best competition ever. He maybe the greatest point guard in the history of the Denver Nuggets.

As we have seen in the 2019 playoffs, winning in the playoffs and winning in the regular season are two different things.

Chauncey Billups is definitely worthy to be in the Hall of Fame and is a great ambassador for Denver Nuggets Basketball.
