3. Torrey Craig & Paul Pierce – 3-point Shooting
This one’s easy. Torrey Craig, during his short career, has been a solid defender, but he has been a well-below average 3-point shooter. How do we remedy this issue? We’re going to give an offseason to work with the eighth player on the all-time 3-pointers made list in Paul Pierce. Pierce climbed that ladder by sticking around for a long time, but he also was pretty accurate with a career-mark of 36.8 percent.
36.8 percent is a respectable mark, but Pierce also had nine seasons where he shot at least 38.0 percent from downtown which was just under half of his career. Craig shot well, 47.2 percent on 36 attempts, from downtown during the playoffs, but he hasn’t shown that he can maintain that same efficiency when you extrapolate it out over an entire season. That’s what we’re bringing Pierce in for.
3-and-D wings are one of the most important commodities in the NBA, and adding another consistent one to the arsenal would give the Nuggets another aspect to their offense that NBA teams would have to deal with. Currently, there are times when he can be left alone on the 3-point line with less fear that he’ll make it. That needs to stop for the team to push the offense to the next level.
