In honor of NBA Block Week we decided to honor the three best seasons (in terms of blocks) of Denver Nuggets legend Dikembe Mutombo
Dikembe Mutombo is a player whose name is synonymous with “blocked shots”. Mutombo is world-famous for his Hall of Fame NBA career and infamous “No-no-no” finger wag that he broke out after many of his 3,289 career blocked shots (2nd all-time). His finger wag is still relevant in modern basketball, to the point that he is often offering up permission to players to use the signature move.
Mutombo played 391 games for the Nuggets, more time than he spent with any other franchise and had some of his most career-defining moments in a Nuggets uniform. He played 15 career postseason games with the Denver Nuggets and is by far, the franchise leader in blocks. Mutombo only accumulated 300+ blocks three times in his career, something that has only been accomplished in 24 times in NBA history. Mutombo’s 300+ block season came in a three-year stretch with the Denver Nuggets from 1993 through 1996.
The Nuggets made the playoffs in two of Mutombo’s three seasons with 300+ blocks and he also an All-Star in two of those three seasons. Though the Nuggets never won a championship with Mutombo, his efforts on the defensive end of the floor and attitude still bring smiles to the face of Nuggets faithful. So buckle up Mile High Basketball fans, as we relieve some of the best Nuggets seasons in Mutombo’s career in honor of NBA Block Week.
