Jokic leads a Western Conference contender

Even when Nikola Jokic performed below his standards during the first 10 games of the season, the feisty Denver Nuggets stayed afloat in a rocky Western Conference full of superstar talent. Nevertheless, Denver’s success ultimately correlates with its star player’s output.

For instance, the first 17 games saw the Nuggets as a stale team on offense. However, as Jokic catches stride, his team’s production ascends. The month of December, fitting of the holiday theme treated fans to a performance of stocking-stuffing proportions.

16 games provide enough context for Jokic’s uptick in numbers corresponding with a significant improvement in the standings. Denver’s offensive rating increased by five points, effective field goal percentage along with true shooting, also took a boost.

Once again, the team’s success coincides with Jokic. Look no further than the monthly enhancements in his production. Each month saw a five percent increase in his offensive rating. Furthermore, efg and true shooting percentage ascend as the season progresses, especially the latter stat, as it jumped 11 percent in December.

Traditionally, teams with higher placement in the standings warrant at least one All-Star. Even without going by past cases, Jokic’s recent numbers deserve All-Star attention. No matter how you spin the scenario, the Denver Nuggets’ current standings make Jokic’s All-Star legitimacy that much more palatable.
