Trade 1: Marcus Morris to the Denver Nuggets

This is a three team trade that could benefit every party involved.

The Denver Nuggets deal Jerami Grant and Malik Beasley. They replace their skillsets into one player. Jerami Grant’s value for the Nuggets in the playoffs would have been as a wing defender. Malik Beasley’s would have been as a shooter.

Marcus Morris provides both of those skillsets. Morris is also shooting much better than both at high volume. His playoff experience would be an additional bonus. He’s a better rebounding player than both as well.

This trade would make Denver a significantly more viable playoff team. Marcus Morris is hitting three point shots at a 44.3% clip on high volume, averaging just over 19 points per game on 23% Usage. His ability to play both the power forward and small forward brings additional versatility and flexibility for Coach Malone.

Milwaukee obtained the Indiana pick  as an asset to improve this year. They’d flip the pick, as well as Sterling Brown, for Malik Beasley. Beasley brings his knockdown shooting, his transition speed, and athleticism. He’d be a much better fit in their offense than Wes Matthews. His still improving defense is less of a concern as he would be flanked by Eric Bledsoe and Khris Middleton.

This also allows the Bucks to stay under the tax while keeping Ersan Ilyasova. Keeping his contract on the books allows them the freedom to still use him as matching salary in case any other moves present themselves. Retaining Malik using his restricted rights is always an option if the fit is seamless.

The Knicks bring back an affordable power forward to replace Morris. Grant is a young enough player to keep around R.J. Barrett as they progress with their rebuild. Sterling Brown is an intriguing prospect that couldn’t crack the rotation in Milwaukee. Their best value would come from the pick from the Indiana Pacers in this upcoming draft, which is currently projected as the 21st pick.

This is a deal that could get done and has upside and meets the timeline of all teams involved.

Unfortunately, this did not seem to be popular with fans of the Denver Nuggets.
