Trade 3: The Nuggets add Lowry

As it is with blockbuster trades, this one would undoubtedly be the most difficult trade to pull off. It also might be the best trade to place the Nuggets firmly in contention.

Take this one with a huge grain of salt.

I’ll give you a second to wrap your heads around that one.

There’s a lot of concerns with this trade, so I’ll address those first.

The Nuggets are dumping 4 players for two, which could be a concern, but if this happens, Bol Bol and P.J. Dozier would certainly be signed to multi-year guaranteed contracts.

Toronto will be extremely hesitant to deal Kyle Lowry as they’re in the middle of a chase for a top two seed in the East. However, adding an efficient shot creator in Malik Beasley to pair with Pascal Siakam is a draw. Adding solid wing depth in Otto Porter Jr instead of relying on Patrick McCaw, Norman Powell, and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson would be a significant upgrade.

This trade would keep Toronto in play for any 2021 free agency plans while also adding some draft capital.

The Bulls are able to unload Otto Porter’s salary while taking a flyer on a young wing, a good defensive guard, and a great veteran center.

Kyle Lowry’s championship pedigree adds much to Denver’s championship hopes. A high level shooter, a stout defender, and a top-notch locker room personality would be invaluable. Kornet replaces Plumlee in the frontcourt as a decent defender, but with a serviceable outside shot.

This trade is highly unlikely, but there’s value for all teams involved.
