The Denver Nuggets have hired Calvin Booth to be their new general manager.

As the coronavirus pandemic rages on, the Denver Nuggets have named Calvin Booth their new general manager. Booth enjoyed a ten-year career in the NBA as a towering center for seven different teams after being a second round draft pick of the Washington Wizards.

Booth played in 51 games with the Wizards before he joined the Dallas Mavericks in 2001. Booth scored the biggest basket of his career with the Mavs, when he finished a layup inside with under ten seconds left in the deciding game five of the 2001 first round playoff series against the Utah Jazz. His bucket gave the Mavs their first playoff series win since the 1988 season.

Booth then moved on to the Seattle Supersonics where he played until 2004, before rejoining the Mavericks a year later. He then played in Milwaukee before returning to the Wizards for another two seasons. He then signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia 76ers as a free agent in 2007. He finished his playing career with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings.

Booth began his front office career with the New Orleans Pelicans as a scout in 2012. He then moved to the Timberwolves, where he became the director of player personnel. Booth was then hired as the assistant general manager of the Nuggets and was named the team’s general manager on July 7th.

Booth is taking over a basketball team with a deep roster that is largely under contract. Paul Millsap and Mason Plumlee both have uncertain futures with the team, just as trade rumors involving Gary Harris continue to swirl. The Nuggets were on national television against the Mavericks as news of the NBA’s stoppage of play spread through the arena like jet fuel.

The Nuggets remain at third in the Western Conference with a 43-22 record, including a 25-8 clip on their home turf. The NBA season is set to resume on July 30th.
