Diving into just how good Nikola Jokic truly is
Winning
Whether you’re a fan of basic statistics, advanced metrics, or historical comparisons, Nikola Jokic checks the boxes. The Denver Nuggets star is proving on a consistent basis that he’s one of the most overwhelming forces that the NBA has to offer.
The last box to check is winning, where Jokic has already done enough to at least make one believe that he has a chance to reach the highest level.
In 2018-19, Jokic led the Denver Nuggets to their first postseason appearance since 2012-13—thus ending a six-year postseason drought. He also led the Nuggets past the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the 2019 NBA Playoffs.
That marked Denver’s first postseason series win since 2008-09—thus ending a 10-year drought that even predated Carmelo Anthony‘s departure.
In 2019-20, Jokic has helped the Nuggets clinch a second consecutive postseason appearance. He also had Denver on pace for a second consecutive 50-win season, with a win percentage of .662—a slight improvement from 2018-19’s .659.
It’s also worth noting that Jokic led Denver to a 46-36 record during his first season as a starter in 2017-18, and was a play-in game away from making the Playoffs.
Five years into his NBA career, Jokic is already producing at a ridiculous level while leading Denver to victory.
The Denver Nuggets big man will need to sustain this level of play to become a Hall of Famer, but it’s half past time that Nikola Jokic is acknowledged by consensus as a true NBA superstar.
