The Denver Nuggets have signed Real Madrid point guard Facundo Campazzo.
According to various reports, the Denver Nuggets are signing Argentinian point guard Facundo Campazzo to a two-year deal. Campazzo, 29-years-old, has played internationally for 10 seasons.
The signing of Campazzo likely signals a change in the Nuggets’ rotation, as it’s unlikely Campazzo would have left Real Madrid in the middle of their 2020-21 season just to grow dusty on Denver’s shelf. An incredible playmaker who can be compared to the point guard version of Nikola Jokic, at least as far as his passing goes, Campazzo’s two-man game with The Joker could become nearly as potent as the pick-and-roll pair of Jokic and Jamal Murray.
Whether this means that the Nuggets are willing to waive point guard Monte Morris — who’s likely to be disgruntled by the move — outright, or if they’re looking to trade him, is unclear. Because Denver also traded for point guard R.J. Hampton on draft night, there’s beginning to be a bit of a logjam at point guard, especially when considering P.J. Dozier’s roster spot.
Then again, the Nuggets could be looking to move rising star Jamal Murray back to shooting guard, his natural position and one that hasn’t been his primary position since his rookie season.
If that’s the case, Denver should feel just fine about having Morris, Campazzo, Dozier, Hampton and Two-Way signing Markus Howard as their point guard depth.
Campazzo was originally linked to the Nuggets on the eve of free agency, with the Nuggets said to be frontrunners for his services.
