Player Michael Porter Jr can expose on Utah Jazz: Donovan Mitchell

While the Utah Jazz has solid wing depth with the scrappy Joe Ingles and Bojan Bogdanovic who are both intense and experienced defenders, Porter can still feast.

Ingles stands at 6-8 with a 6-10 wingspan and his intense on-ball defense could cause problems for the young Porter. Ingles has a defensive rating of 110.4 this season which is a credit to the rim protection of Rudy Gobert but also his individual effort on defense. Just behind him is the 6-7 Bogdanovic with a defensive rating of 111.7.

Michael Porter Jr will need to force switches in the pick-and-roll to get away from these defenders and he should focus on abusing Donovan Mitchell. With the amount of switching the Nuggets offense forces, it’s quite easy for Porter to get the matchup he wants such as switching onto Mitchell. Switching onto Mike Conley might also prove beneficial as he can bully the two guards in the paint.

Mitchell plays with intensity and seems to love competition, meaning he likely would be more than eager to switch the matchup and Porter can destroy him on all three levels of the floor. Over the last 15 games, Porter is shooting 81.3 percent at the rim and he has been able to get to his spots with ease.

Mitchell is tasked with creating almost everything for the Jazz when the game slows down, so the constant attack on the defensive end from Porter could be the Nuggets’ real chance at a victory in a seven-game series.
