Heading into the 2021 offseason, the Denver Nuggets find themselves in an interesting situation. Tim Connelly and the front office have done the hard work, now they need to fine-tune the team, and fill in the regular season hole Jamal Murray’s injury opens.

Typically, this offseason would be about finalizing a championship contender but the Murray injury throws a spanner in the works. While it’s okay to assume he’ll come back just as elite as he was before, the Nuggets need to find a regular season replacement for the start of the 2021-22 season.

And Connelly sounds confident in Jamal’s return, as he said in his end of season press conference:

"“I don’t think [Jamal’s] injury will have too much bearing on how we view the next X amount of months, because we know he’s going to be back better than ever.”"

There are several avenues for Denver to replace the production that Jamal brings in the regular season. Given how much money the Nuggets already have tied up, it’s going to be impossible to get a player of Jamal’s caliber, but there are options there to soak up the minutes he opens up.

We run through three avenues the front office has to do this: free agency, the NBA Draft, and banking on internal improvement.
