Denver Nuggets: An updated look at the depth chart after FA
By Sean Carroll
The Denver Nuggets have pretty much finished their offseason moves. Tim Connelly was able to quickly re-sign Will Barton and JaMychal Green while also adding Jeff Green to the fold.
Additionally, the Nuggets drafted Nah’Shon ‘Bones’ Hyland with the 26th pick in the 2021 draft and brought back Austin Rivers on an assumed minimum contract. At the moment, Paul Millsap, Markus Howard, and Shaq Harrison are without contracts, but they don’t project to play a substantial role in the lineup next season.
Assuming P.J. Dozier and Vlatko Cancar’s contracts are guaranteed before the start of next season, the Nuggets have 14 players on their roster and re-signing Millsap brings that number up to the maximum allowable 15.
Entering next season, head coach Michael Malone will have to find ways to replace Jamal Murray’s production as he recovers from a torn ACL.
In a recent article, I looked at how we didn’t see Connelly overreact and sign a scoring guard in free agency. This means the front office is expecting other parts of the roster to step up, making up for Jamal’s absence.
Barton will likely be the starting shooting guard on the roster, assuming most of the wing scoring duties, and hopefully giving Denver an elite scoring guard, one they’ll miss without Murray. But Malone could go in several directions, this article will run through the depth at each position and predict who gets minutes and where.
