Denver Nuggets: 3 threats to Nikola Jokic’s MVP title – 1. LeBron James

LeBron James. The second greatest player of all time. A man who doesn’t take kindly to losing. So how do you think James is going to react to the Los Angeles Lakers‘ first-round exit at the hands of the Phoenix Suns?

James has a history of coming back strong following a disappointing season, and while age is slowly catching up to him, he will likely be looking to chase another championship again this season. With a supporting cast that includes Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, and Carmelo Anthony, the Lakers have to be one of the favorites to win it all.

With an additional ball-handler on the roster, LeBron can focus more of his energy on scoring and defense this year, while offering secondary creation as a playmaker. By taking the ball out of LeBron’s hands, and allowing him to create opportunities off-ball, the Lakers will be minimizing injury risks, while also looking to give LeBron opportunities to increase his scoring averages.

When it comes to hurt pride, no one responds better or as loudly as LeBron does. and this season figures to be no different. If Nikola Jokic has plans on retaining his MVP title, he’s going to have to outperform LeBron at every hurdle. Luckily for Jokic, he’s got age on his side, along with a skill set that no other play in the league can boast.
