Former Dallas Mavericks star Jason Terry is set to coach the Nuggets G-League team, but is he the right man for the job?

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, former NBA star Jason Terry is set to become the new Head Coach of the Grand Rapids Gold (Denver’s new G-League team).

The Nuggets announced the acquisition of their G-League team three months ago, with the team being branded as the Grand Rapids Gold shortly after, as the Nuggets are finally set to have their own squad in the rapidly growing G-League.

With a number of young players on the roster, the Nuggets will have the chance to give them some playing time and development in the G-League, with Terry being the perfect signing for the team.

While the 2011 NBA champion does not have much experience coaching, Terry did work for a year as an assistant coach for the University of Arizona. However, the hiring of Terry from the team suggests the amount of confidence in Jason Terry’s coaching ability.

This opportunity will likely push forward Terry’s aspirations of becoming an NBA coach, which he discussed in a radio interview with Zach Gelb back in June when discussing his time at Arizona:

"“Don’t rule out me being on a bench here in the NBA. I also have aspired to give my 19 years of experience and knowledge to these young guys (at Arizona) and mentor these guys and show them the way. We’ll see what the cards hold but I’m enjoying my time at Arizona under the leadership of Tommy Lloyd and back at my alma mater, so I’m having fun doing what I do.”"

Jason Terry’s 19 years of NBA experience, including winning a championship with the Mavericks in 2011 against the LeBron James-led Miami Heat and winning a Sixth Man of the Year award in 2009. His tenure in the NBA will be a great asset for the G-League squad as he will be able to help prepare the players for a potential NBA career.

The Grand Rapids Gold will have an excellent asset in Jason Terry and the future is going to be bright for the Denver Nuggets with an NBA veteran training some potential talent and making them ready to make the leap into the NBA.
