Denver Nuggets: 3 players who might not finish the season in Denver: Bol Bol

The loss of Javale McGee is more prominent than is being made out. As things stand, the Denver Nuggets will either have to rely on Bol Bol as their backup center or go small with the likes of Jeff Green.

If the Denver Nuggets aren’t satisfied with their current “rotation” at the five, then moving on from Bol Bol may be the best option they have for snagging a clear upgrade. Sure, Bol Bol is a fan favorite that has shown signs of developmental growth during Summer League, but he doesn’t project to be impactful on a nightly basis at this point in his career.

Beyond being a giant who can stretch the floor and finish in the mid-range, his game isn’t polished enough to compete against NBA opposition consistently. Questions remain over Bol Bol’s injury history, and his frail frame makes you wince every time he decides to bang down-low with the league’s more robust bigs.

Furthermore, running a small-ball lineup is best when it’s a choice. Going small is match-up dependant, not something that a coach should be forced into doing. With so many questions around Bol Bol’s longevity in the NBA, the Denver Nuggets may choose to cut bait and try to find a more established big to back up Jokic and provide the team with a more respectable big man rotation.
