Denver Nuggets offseason grades: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope – A-

The trade that sent Will Barton and Monte Morris to the Wizards saw the Nuggets get Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in return.

While losing Barton and Morris might sting, the team picked up KCP, a perfect 3-and-D player on the wing. He brings defense and size to a backcourt that hasn’t had this level of perimeter defense since Gary Harris was traded.

This past season, KCP averaged 13.2 points per game while shooting 43.5 percent from the floor and 39 percent from the 3-point line. He seems like a missing puzzle piece that the team has needed, and brings championship experience to a team that is hoping to reach their first NBA Finals.

There is no reason to think that he will not fit in immediately, and will be able to produce the moment he puts on a Nuggets uniform.

The only reason the acquisition isn’t a straight A+ is because Denver essentially lost two rotation players for one here since the second player coming back from Washington was more of a fill-in.
