Denver Nuggets early season trade targets: Kira Lewis Jr.

Kira Lewis Jr. is a buy-low player that the team should be looking to acquire to add more backcourt depth. Lewis Jr. is returning from a torn ACL that he suffered early last season, ironically against the Denver Nuggets.

The New Orleans Pelicans team that he will be returning to this season is not the like the one he played for last season before getting injured. The roster now has players ahead of him in the rotation like CJ McCollum, Jose Alvarado, and this year’s eighth-overall pick Dyson Daniels.

The Pelicans should be looking to trade him because he is only 21 years old and holds potential that teams will be trying to get out of him. The Nuggets should be one of those teams trying to bring the guard from Alabama to their roster.

After Bones Hyland, there isn’t much guard depth coming off the bench, and while Ish Smith is a trusted veteran, Kira Lewis Jr. can bring more energy to the second unit while he is on the floor.

Teams will have their hands full trying to cover both him and Hyland in the backcourt and with the speed that Lewis Jr. possesses, good luck to other teams trying to stop them.

Teams rarely give up on lottery picks so soon but after being drafted 13th overall two seasons ago, he might not be in New Orleans’ future plans. For the Denver Nuggets, he’d be a low-risk, high-reward gamble if they could trade for him.
