Those short odds for the Celtics are a bit peculiar considering they have only two more wins than the Bucks and Nuggets at this point in the season with about 20 games still left to play.
The Nuggets have a real chance to finish with the best record in the NBA, and those +425 odds look even tastier when you look at the remaining strength of schedule for the contending teams. The Bucks have the 13th toughest remaining schedule, while the Celtics have the 15th. The Nuggets, meanwhile, have the 10th-easiest schedule across their final 21 games, with their opponents averaging out to a .486 winning percentage.
With a fifth of their remaining games coming against the three teams duking it out in the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes (San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets), and three more against the struggling Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic, they’re very well positioned to finish the campaign strong.
