With the new NBA season less than two months away (yay!) the Denver Nuggets are looking at a bit of a problem at the wing spot. They lost both Bruce Brown and Jeff Green this summer in free agency, with Brown joining the Indiana Pacers and Green heading to the Houston Rockets.
Plus, they were dealt even more bad news as Vlatko Cancar tore his ACL playing in a FIBA World Cup preliminary game for Slovenia last month.
Now, Denver has the choice to either lean on young players like Christian Braun or perhaps Julian Strawther or swing some sort of trade to land some reinforcements.
In the case that they elect to go with the latter, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley suggests that they take a look at Reggie Bullock of the San Antonio Spurs.
Buckley’s pitch was highlighted by Bullocks’ ability to knock down the three-ball and hold his own defensively.
“Bullock pairs serviceable defense with a three-ball that’s found its mark 38.3 percent of the time the past three seasons,” he wrote.
Should the Denver Nuggets pursue a Reggie Bullock trade with the Spurs?
It couldn’t hurt to call, right?
Bullock recently joined the Spurs as part of a three-team sign-and-trade deal that saw the Boston Celtics send Grant Williams to the Dallas Mavericks. Because of that, he cannot be included in any trade before October 14, 2023.
Even with the restriction, it wouldn’t be the worst idea to see if San Antonio would trade Bullock.
The 32-year-old wing would be a solid addition to Denver’s bench. He would thrive playing alongside a playmaker like Nikola Jokic, and could become a key piece of the rotation.
Last season with Dallas, Bullock averaged 7.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game while knocking down 40.9% of his attempts from the field and 38.0% from distance.
It wouldn’t be shocking if the Spurs wanted to offload him and his expiring $10.4 million salary in exchange for a package of picks and salary filler.
