After the Denver Nuggets won their first NBA championship, Nikola Jokic did not try to bask in the glory. Sure, success is always welcomed, but for the Joker, he has never been one for the limelight. Not too long after the Nuggets held their championship parade, Jokic decided to head to his home in Serbia for a while.

This is common for NBA players, especially ones who are from overseas. Playing basketball in the United States means not being able to go back home for a while, which is challenging. Jokic has always been the kind of person to spends a lot of time in his home country and tries to live a normal life.

ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk wrote about Nikola Jokic and how he spent his summer in Sombor, Serbia. A lot of fans of Jokic know that he is a big fan of horses and horse racing, so he owns his own horses that enter horse races from time to time. It is a big passion of his.

Aaron Gordon, Jokic’s teammate, visited Sombor with him to see what his life was like off-court. The life in Sombor is a lot different than the busy and bustling cities of the United States. Things are more peaceful in Sombor than in the US, as Gordon put it.

One thing Gordon noted was how the peace of Serbia really helps Jokic and how he dominates the way he does.

"“His routine over there, his way of life, very congruent,” Gordon told ESPN. “I could see his peace. The peace of mind translates onto the court. That’s what makes him such a good player.”"

Nikola Jokic really does have a very calm and relaxing feel for the game. He does not try to rush the game or take bad shots. He’s always calm under pressure, as he’s one of the most clutch players in the NBA.

Gordon also mentioned Jokic’s playstyle and how he is one of the best if not the best player in the NBA.

"“He’s only 28,” Gordon said. “So he’s going to get even smarter at manipulating the defense [and] offense. … I don’t see anybody stopping him. They still haven’t found the answer for him yet.”"

Even though Jokic is only 28 years old, he does have one of the best basketball resumes of all time. 2x MVP, a Finals MVP, an NBA champion, the list goes on and on. He already has a Hall-of-Fame resume at this point, and his career is not over yet.

Throughout his NBA career, no one has found a way to stop him. If he cannot score, he will find his open teammates and get assists. He is always a factor on the glass, as he is one of the NBA’s best and smartest rebounders.

Nikola Jokic is one of the NBA’s smartest teammates of all time, and it shows. Aaron Gordon highlighted how good of a player he is, and he isn’t wrong or over-exaggerating. He could win an MVP this year and for multiple more seasons if his career continues to go the way it looks like.

Maybe Aaron Gordon could also join Nikola Jokic in the All-Star game this year. He definitely has all the talent to make it, so it’s definitely not impossible.
