The Denver Nuggets are a month deep into the offseason, and they still have work to do to fill out the rest of the roster. They have two remaining roster spots available, one of them presumably for Peyton Watson if the Nuggets are able to reach a deal with the restricted free agent. But they still have a glaring need for a backup point guard, despite signing Tyus Jones at the start of the free agency window.
And while Jones is a ball control expert, he isn't going to be able to shoulder enough of a load unless the Nuggets ask Jamal Murray to shoulder an even larger load this season. The free agent market may be picked apart by this point, but there are still three good options for the Nuggets to target for the biggest remaining roster hole.
3. Aaron Holiday
If the Nuggets want to go with a defensive option at the backup point guard spot, Holiday is the answer. Holiday isn't going to wow at all offensively, but he doesn't turn the ball over very much. And with most of the options mostly picked through already, Holiday's defense lands him on the list.
2. Brandon Williams
Brandon Williams spent the 2025-26 season as a member of the Dallas Mavericks, his third with the team but first on a standard NBA contract after being lifted up from a two-way contract. Williams played 66 games and started 15, averaging 13.0 points, 3.9 assists, and 2.9 rebounds across 22.2 minutes per game. Williams was also decent in the defensive department as well, grabbing 0.9 steals.
Williams is still a little undersized, like Jones, standing at 6-foot-1, and he's prone to turnovers, committing 1.9 per game last year, but he's obviously the better offensive option.
1. Russell Westbrook
The future Hall of Famer Russell Westbrook is still available, and the Nuggets should be calling him about a reunion. Now, I know a lot of Nuggets fans think Russ' personality and volatility wouldn't work back with the Nuggets again. And he left on sour terms after the Nuggets "didn't want him back."
Whatever, that was a mistake, and the Nuggets clearly missed the tenacity Westbrook had. If he were still around against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the playoffs, the Nuggets might have had a better chance to attack the rim. Westbrook can still get downhill, and he can still play, as evidenced by his 15.2 points last season with the Sacramento Kings. Russ is a baller, and he will ball.
It's not a basketball thing. It's a personality thing. There are rumors that Westbrook may not even find a suitor in the NBA. The door is wide open for the Nuggets to get Russ back in Denver. On a minimum contract, the Nuggets can't do much better.
