What the Nuggets need more than anything to fill out their roster is a reliable backup point guard, something the current roster is lacking. One player who would perfectly fit that mold, but is now, no longer available, is Delon Wright. Wright was toiling in free agency until the Pacers signed him on Thursday.
The plan for the Pacers now is to sign guard Delon Wright for training camp, per multiple sources. Physical first. https://t.co/yM1ZIGaFYn

This comes in the immediate aftermath of Indiana signing former Nuggets point guard Monte Morris, only to void the deal after discovering an injury. The Pacers, who are likely to be without their superstar point guard, Tyrese Haliburton, needed depth at the position, and they’ll get it in the veteran Wright.
A true journeyman, Wright has played for 10 different teams over the course of his decade in the NBA, most recently appearing for the Knicks last season. Wright is far from his prime, and he’s not going to come in and replace Haliburton, or transform the Pacers into sudden contenders or anything like that.
But he is a proven, steady hand who will give them solid bench minutes whenever the team needs it. He won’t turn the ball over, he’ll run the offense and set up his teammates, he’ll hit his open shots, and he’ll compete on the defensive end. He’ll bring a valuable set of skills to the table, and he won’t cost much.
Nuggets' options are quickly drying up
The NBA media isn’t exactly flipping out over this Wright news, but it’s another player that the Nuggets seemingly could have used, who’s no longer an option. I felt the same way when the Pacers signed Morris, only to learn of his injury, and the Wright signing feels like more of the same.
I get wanting to keep the final roster spot open to maintain flexibility, but with their payroll and salaries, if Denver really wants to add a player during the season, they should be able to find a way to do so. Meanwhile, the season is starting in less than a month, and the only true point guards on the roster are Jamal Murray and Jalen Pickett.
Bringing in a guy like Wright would have made a ton of sense, even just to give him a look in training camp and see if he can make an impact. It would have been a risk-free signing to potentially fill a very important role. Alas, that option is gone, and it’s back to the drawing board.
Maybe the Nuggets have their eyes on someone else, or maybe they’re confident in what they already have. But if this pops up as a problem early in the season, some of these decisions, or non-decisions, may come back to haunt them.
