This headline may sound like a page out of a Mad Libs book, but on a recent episode of the Dudes on Dudes Podcast with Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski, the NFL legends got to talking about an unexpected topic: Nikola Jokic.
Edelman brought up the Joker, likening him to Gronk, and the iconic former tight end loved it and ran with the comparison immediately. Julian told Rob that he would “be Jokic on the floor”, as if to say the two were similar versions of each other in their own sports.
Gronk said he loves Jokic and went on to compare the way they move in an animated way that was meant to be complimentary of the three-time MVP.
Gronk calls Jokic uglier version of himself
Then, Gronk went on to hilariously say the two even look alike, although Jokic is bigger. But Gronkowski commented on the two both having big noses and, after hesitating for a moment, called Jokic “kind of an uglier version of me”.
He was quick to spin it into a positive, saying that he would still date Jokic if he were “a hot chick”. This whole conversation is classic Gronk, and nobody but him could seemingly insult Jokic while coming off as an adoring fan at the same time.

Ultimately, this is just silly, harmless fun, but it’s still cool to see a couple of Super Bowl heroes waxing poetic about the Nuggets’ big man and future Hall of Famers. A Jokic appearance on the podcast would be an immediate must-listen.
Comparison of Gronk to Jokic an apt one
As innocuous as this was, it’s a pretty interesting cross-sport comparison. Gronk and Jokic are both awkward-looking giants who are total unicorns at their positions. They both get bludgeoned by smaller defenders constantly and have to endure more contact and attention than just about any players in the NFL or NBA.
They also appear clumsy but move extremely gracefully with incredibly soft hands and magical hand-eye coordination. Although not at all similar, they both share unique and, in their own way, charming personalities that their fans have grown to love over the years.
Finally, they are two of the greatest players ever in the history of their sports. Gronkowski revolutionized the tight end position, and we may never see another player with his combination of receiving and blocking prowess. He won four Super Bowls in 11 seasons with the Patriots and Buccaneers.
Jokic, so far, has three MVP Awards, won Finals MVP in 2023, and has been named to 5 All-NBA first teams. Both of these players are undoubtedly first-ballot Hall of Famers, and hopefully, the two will cross paths and collaborate in some form in the future.
