It didn't take long for Denver Nuggets fans to get on board with the Cam Johnson trade after the surprise wore off. Fans knew a Michael Porter Jr. trade was probably coming, but they didn't expect the Nuggets to get a player like Johnson in return. If, as a fan, you're wondering how Johnson feels about the trade and getting to play alongside Nikola Jokic, you'll love his response.
Johnson and Tim Hardaway Jr., one of the other newest Nuggets, were recent guests on The Young Man and The Three podcast. Host Tommy Alter asked Johnson and Hardaway what they're looking forward to the most about playing with Jokic. Hardway and Johnson immediately broke into huge smiles before Johnson gave an honest, yet amusing response:
"Honestly, a big part of it is not having to play against him anymore because he's a problem. That's it, period."

Johnson added, "It's an uncanny ability that he has. Spatial awareness, how he feels the game, how he understands the game. He does it in a way differently than anyone else in the league. He's one of the best players in the league and one of the best players in league history. From a pure numbers perspective, you're not touching his output over the past couple of years. It's not accidental, he's just that good."
Cam Johnson is excited he doesn't have to play against Jokic anymore
The biggest challenge about playing the Nuggets is guarding Jokic. It's essentially an impossible task. One of the best parts about playing Denver is the minutes when Jokic is off the floor. The Nuggets might have helped address that by trading for Jonas Valanciunas, although his situation is uncertain.
As Cam said, Jokic impacts the game in so many different ways. The big man will impact Johnson and Hardway's numbers, too. They know that he'll find them for open looks on the perimeter, even if he isn't looking in their direction. There is nothing like playing alongside Jokic, absolutely nothing.
Johnson also discussed a few of his other new teammates, noting that the Nuggets are overall a tough team to guard. He mentioned Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, and Christian Braun. Cam said that he knows he and Hardaway will fit in that kind of environment. He isn't wrong. The Nuggets needed shooters, and the front office addressed that need.
Jokic makes any team lethal, which is why, as Hardaway pointed out, it was impressive that Denver took Oklahoma City to seven games in the semifinals. Adding players like Hardaway, Johnson, and Bruce Brown is akin to throwing fuel on the fire.
After the start that the Nuggets had to the offseason, best of luck to opposing teams. Jokic is far from being the only defensive concern, but he is the biggest.
